Licence Application
Before you can learn to drive a car you must apply for a provisional driving licence. You may apply for your provisional driving licence up to three months before your 17th Birthday. However, you will not be able to take your theory test or start your driving lessons before your birthday. The Driving test consists of two parts, the theory test & practical test.
- Theory Test - Before taking your practical driving test you must pass the theory test. This consists of two parts, multiple choice and the hazard perception. You will need to pass both parts to pass the theory test.
- Practical Test - The practical test will include an eyesight check, two vehicle safety check questions. You will be examined on your general driving and on two reversing exercises.
Passing this test will be subject to you displaying an ability to drive safely whilst adhering to the highway code.
Pass plus
Pass Plus is a training course specifically aimed at new drivers, however anyone who holds a full UK licence is eligible to take part in the scheme.
Pass Plus is made of six parts which include:
- driving in town
- driving in all weathers
- driving on rural roads
- driving at night
- driving on dual carriageways
- driving on motorways
You do not have to take a test with Pass Plus but will be continually assessed by your driving instructor throughout the training course. Through successful completion of pass plus you may benefit from insurance discounts through participating insurance companies.
